Adverbs use

Adverbs help us say how somebody does something or how something happens. They often answer the question how?

I walk quietly, talk politely, and run fast.
Listen carefully!
I went to bed early yesterday and slept well.
Our team played well last week.

Adverbs Form

Most adverbs are formed from adjectives by adding -ly. But there are several important exceptions.

She answered the question quickly.
The rain fell heavily all night.
He runs fast.
They played well.

Adverbs Rule

  • An adverb often comes after the verb and shows how the action is done.
    She speaks politely.
    He works carefully.
  • If the verb has an object, the adverb usually comes after the object.
    She read the instructions carefully.
    He closed the door quietly.
  • Some adverbs do not take -ly: fast, late, early, hard.
    ✅ He runs fast.
    ❌ He runs fastly.
    She arrived early and waited for us.
  • Good is an adjective, and well is an adverb. Use well when you say how an action is done.
    ✅ She speaks English well.
    ❌ She speaks English goodly.
  • Hard and hardly have different meanings. Hard means “with effort”. Hardly means “almost not”.
    Hugo works very hard.
    Lea hardly works at all.
