Singular and Plural Nouns usamos

Singular é a forma de um substantivo quando falamos de uma pessoa, coisa ou ideia: um livro, uma maçã.
Plural é a forma que usamos quando há duas ou mais: livros, maçãs.
Este tópico ajuda você a usar a forma correta do substantivo, escolher palavras como um/uma, formar plurais e combinar palavras como este / esse / estes / esses, ele / eles e é / são.

Singular and Plural Nouns Forma

A maioria dos substantivos contáveis tem uma forma singular e uma forma plural. Um substantivo contável no singular geralmente não pode aparecer sozinho sem uma palavra antes dele: muitas vezes é um/uma, mas também pode ser o/a, este/esta, esse/essa, meu/minha e palavras semelhantes. A forma plural geralmente é feita com -s ou -es, mas alguns substantivos têm plurais irregulares.

Singular: a pen, an apple, this book, that phone, my bag, it is ...
Plural: pens, apples, these books, those phones, my bags, they are ...

Singular and Plural Nouns Regra

  • Um substantivo contável no singular normalmente precisa de uma palavra antes dele. Muitas vezes isso é a/an, mas também pode ser the, this, that, my e palavras semelhantes. Normalmente usamos a antes de um som consonantal e an antes de um som vocálico.

  • Para tornar um substantivo plural, geralmente acrescentamos -s.
    ✅ book → books
    ✅ dog → dogs
    ✅ phone → phones
  • Se um substantivo termina em -ch, -sh, -s, -ss, -x, geralmente acrescentamos -es.
    ✅ watch → watches
    ✅ dish → dishes
    ✅ bus → buses
    ✅ box → boxes
  • Se um substantivo termina em consoante + y, o y geralmente muda para ies. Se houver uma vogal antes de y, geralmente apenas acrescentamos -s.

    ✅ day → days
  • Alguns substantivos terminados em -f ou -fe formam o plural com -ves.
    ✅ leaf → leaves

  • Usamos this / that com substantivos singulares e these / those com substantivos plurais. O verbo também deve concordar: is com o singular e are com o plural.

  • Alguns substantivos têm uma forma plural irregular, por isso você precisa aprendê-los.
