Singular and Plural Nouns koristimo

Jednina je oblik imenice kada govorimo o jednoj osobi, stvari ili ideji: knjiga, jabuka.
Množina je oblik koji koristimo kada ih ima dvije ili više: knjige, jabuke.

Singular and Plural Nouns Oblik

Većina brojivih imenica ima jedninu i množinu. Brojiva imenica u jednini obično ne može stajati sama bez riječi ispred nje: to je često a/an, ali može biti i the, this, that, my i slične riječi. Oblik množine obično se tvori nastavkom -s ili -es, ali neke imenice imaju nepravilne oblike množine.

Singular: a pen, an apple, this book, that phone, my bag, it is ...
Plural: pens, apples, these books, those phones, my bags, they are ...

Singular and Plural Nouns Pravilo

  • Jednina brojive imenice obično treba riječ ispred sebe. To je često a/an, ali može biti i the, this, that, my i slične riječi. Obično upotrebljavamo a ispred suglasničkog glasa, a an ispred samoglasničkog glasa.

  • Da bismo imenicu učinili množinom, obično dodajemo -s.
    ✅ book → books
    ✅ dog → dogs
    ✅ phone → phones
  • Ako imenica završava na -ch, -sh, -s, -ss, -x, obično dodajemo -es.
    ✅ watch → watches
    ✅ dish → dishes
    ✅ bus → buses
    ✅ box → boxes
  • Ako imenica završava na suglasnik + y, y se obično mijenja u ies. Ako se ispred y nalazi samoglasnik, obično samo dodamo -s.
    ✅ country → countries
    ✅ baby → babies
    ✅ boy → boys
    ✅ day → days
  • Neke imenice koje završavaju na -f ili -fe tvore množinu nastavkom -ves.
    ✅ leaf → leaves
    ✅ wife → wives
    ✅ knife → knives
  • Koristimo this / that s jedninskim imenicama, a these / those s množinskim imenicama. I glagol se mora slagati: is s jedninskim, a are s množinskim.

  • Neke imenice imaju nepravilni oblik množine, pa ih trebate naučiti.

Singular and Plural Nouns Tipične pogreške

Uobičajene pogreške: izostavljanje riječi ispred brojive imenice u jednini, neispravno tvorenje množine te miješanje this / these, that / those i is / are.

To su nove kutije.
I can see a church and two buses.
Vidim crkvu i dva autobusa.
The boy has a toy, and the girls have toys.
Dječak ima igračku, a djevojčice imaju igračke.
There is a child in the room, and there are three children outside.
U sobi je jedno dijete, a vani je troje djece.

Na stolu je knjiga, a u torbi su dvije bilježnice.
She has a child, and her sister has three children.
Ona ima jedno dijete, a njezina sestra ima troje djece.
I saw a man near the door and two women in the hall.
Vidio sam muškarca blizu vrata i dvije žene u hodniku.
He adopted a dog and later rescued two cats.
Udomio je psa i kasnije spasio dvije mačke.
We picked a flower and bought some roses.
