Singular and Plural Nouns usiamo

Il singolare è la forma di un nome quando parliamo di una persona, cosa o idea: un libro, una mela.
Il plurale è la forma che usiamo quando ce ne sono due o più: libri, mele.

Singular and Plural Nouns Forma

La maggior parte dei sostantivi numerabili ha una forma singolare e una forma plurale. Un sostantivo numerabile singolare di solito non può stare da solo senza una parola prima di esso: spesso si tratta di un/una, ma può anche essere il/la, questo, quello, mio e parole simili. La forma plurale si forma di solito con -s o -es, ma alcuni sostantivi hanno plurali irregolari.

Singular: a pen, an apple, this book, that phone, my bag, it is ...
Plural: pens, apples, these books, those phones, my bags, they are ...

Singular and Plural Nouns Regola

  • Un sostantivo numerabile singolare di solito ha bisogno di una parola prima. Spesso è a/an, ma può anche essere the, this, that, my e parole simili. Di solito usiamo a prima di un suono consonantico e an prima di un suono vocalico.

  • Per rendere un sostantivo plurale, di solito aggiungiamo -s.
    ✅ book → books
    ✅ dog → dogs
    ✅ phone → phones
  • Se un sostantivo termina in -ch, -sh, -s, -ss, -x, di solito aggiungiamo -es.
    ✅ watch → watches
    ✅ dish → dishes
    ✅ bus → buses
    ✅ box → boxes
  • Se un sostantivo termina in consonante + y, la y di solito cambia in ies. Se prima della y c’è una vocale, di solito aggiungiamo semplicemente -s.
    ✅ country → countries
    ✅ baby → babies
    ✅ boy → boys
    ✅ day → days
  • Alcuni sostantivi che terminano in -f o -fe formano il plurale con -ves.
    ✅ leaf → leaves
    ✅ wife → wives
    ✅ knife → knives
  • Usiamo this / that con i nomi singolari e these / those con i nomi plurali. Anche il verbo deve concordare: is con il singolare e are con il plurale.

  • Alcuni sostantivi hanno una forma plurale irregolare, quindi devi impararli.
    ✅ man → men
