Third Conditional usiamo

Parliamo di un passato irreale: la condizione non si è verificata, ma descriviamo un risultato immaginario.

Third Conditional Forma

if-part (Conditional)	main part Result
if + subject + Past Perfect	subject + would have + V3

If + subject + Past Perfect, subject + would have + V3.
Subject + would have + V3 + if + subject + Past Perfect.

If it had rained, I would have stayed at home.
Se fosse piovuto, sarei rimasto a casa.

Third Conditional Regola

L’ordine delle parti non è importante.

If you had studied, you would have passed.

You would have passed if you had studied.
Se la parte condizionale viene per prima, mettiamo una virgola dopo.

If you had studied, you would have passed.

You would have passed if you had studied.
si possono usare verbi modali invece di would have: could have, might have, should have
If it had been late, we might have taken a taxi.
Se fosse stato tardi, avremmo potuto prendere un taxi.

If you had prepared, you could have succeeded.
Se ti fossi preparato, avresti potuto avere successo.

If you had listened, you should have understood everything.
Se avessi ascoltato, avresti dovuto capire tutto.
la congiunzione unless = if not (nel passato)
We wouldn’t have gone unless it had been necessary.
Non saremmo andati se non fosse stato necessario.
condizionali misti: condizione passata + risultato presente
If I had slept more, I would feel better now.
Se avessi dormito di più, mi sentirei meglio ora.

Third Conditional Negazione

nella frase con if: Past Perfect + hadn’t + V3
If he hadn’t called, I wouldn’t have gone.
Se non avesse chiamato, non sarei andato.
nella frase principale: wouldn’t have + V3 o la negazione di un verbo modale
If it had rained, we wouldn’t have gone outside.
Se fosse piovuto, non saremmo andati fuori.

If you had studied hard, you might not have failed.
Se avessi studiato duramente, potresti non aver fallito.

Third Conditional Domande

Si formano come domande normali con would + have, e rimane la proposizione con if (Past Perfect).

Would + subject + have + V3 + if + Past Perfect?
Wh-word + would + subject + have + V3 + if + Past Perfect?

What would you have done if the app had crashed?
Cosa avresti fatto se l'app si fosse bloccata?

Where would you have gone if you had moved abroad?
Dove saresti andato se ti fossi trasferito all'estero?

Who would you have invited if you had organized a party?
Chi avresti invitato se avessi organizzato una festa?

Why would she have been upset if you hadn’t written?
Perché si sarebbe arrabbiata se tu non avessi scritto?

How would you have felt if you had lost your phone?
Come ti saresti sentito se avessi perso il telefono?

Third Conditional Errori tipici

❌ If it would have rained, we would have canceled.

❌ I wouldn’t have come if he wouldn’t have called.

Third Conditional Frasi

If you had finished the report on time, we would have sent it yesterday.
Se avessi finito il rapporto in tempo, lo avremmo mandato ieri.

If he hadn’t been late, the meeting would have started on time.
Se non fosse arrivato in ritardo, la riunione sarebbe iniziata in orario.

If the weather had been better, we would have had a picnic.
Se il tempo fosse stato migliore, avremmo fatto un picnic.

If they had known the answer, they would have told us.
Se avessero saputo la risposta, ce l’avrebbero detto.

If yesterday had been a day off, we would have gone to the countryside.
Se ieri fosse stato un giorno libero, saremmo andati in campagna.

If he had worked harder, he would have got a promotion.
Se avesse lavorato di più, avrebbe ottenuto una promozione.

If you had lived closer, we would have met more often.
Se avessi abitato più vicino, ci saremmo visti più spesso.

If we had had a car, we would have left earlier.
Se avessimo avuto una macchina, saremmo partiti prima.

If I had known about it earlier, I would have prepared.
Se lo avessi saputo prima, mi sarei preparato.

If they had been free yesterday, they would have come to us.
Se fossero stati liberi ieri, sarebbero venuti da noi.

Se avessi avuto più soldi, avrei viaggiato in tutto il mondo.

If she had known his number, she would have called him.
Se avesse saputo il suo numero, lo avrebbe chiamato.

If you hadn’t eaten so much sugar, you would have felt healthier.
Se non avessi mangiato così tanto zucchero, ti saresti sentito più in salute.

Se avessero condiviso i dati, avremmo potuto finire più in fretta.
