Present Simple usiamo

Il Present Simple si usa per parlare di abitudini, fatti e verità generali, orari e situazioni permanenti.


  • Abitudini e routine
    I usually drink coffee in the morning.
    Di solito bevo caffè la mattina.
  • Fatti e verità generali
    Water boils at 100°C.
    L’acqua bolle a 100 °C.
  • Orari e programmi
    The train leaves at 8:30.
    Il treno parte alle 8:30.
  • Situazioni permanenti o a lungo termine
    She works in a software company.
    Lavora in un'azienda di software.

Present Simple Forma

Subject + V1
He / She / It + V1(+s)

I work from home three days a week. She works from home three days a week.

Present Simple Regola

  • Alla terza persona singolare (he/she/it) si aggiunge -s o -es.
    He works in an office.
    She watches online courses.
  • Regole di ortografia per la terza persona singolare:
    • i verbi che terminano in -o, -sh, -ch, -ss, -x → si aggiunge -es
      He goes to the gym.
      She washes the dishes.
    • verbo che termina in consonante + y → y diventa ies
      He studies English every day.
    • verbo che termina in vocale + y → si aggiunge semplicemente -s
      She plays tennis on Sundays.
  • Gli avverbi di frequenza si collocano di solito prima del verbo principale e dopo il verbo to be.
    I always check my email in the morning.
    She is often late for meetings.
  • Il Present Simple si usa spesso per parlare di orari, programmi ed eventi regolari.
    The meeting starts at 10.
    Our team call takes place every Monday.
  • Alcuni verbi (come know, like, love, hate, understand, believe) di solito non si usano nelle forme continue.
    I know the answer.
    She likes this app.

Present Simple Negazione

I / you / we / they do not (don’t) + V1
he / she / it does not (doesn’t) + V1

I don’t drink coffee in the evening.
He doesn’t check messages at night.

Present Simple Domande

  • Le domande chiuse si formano con gli ausiliari do e does.

    Do + I / you / we / they + V1?
    Does + he / she / it + V1?

    Do you work from home?
    Does she work on Sundays?
  • Dopo does, il verbo principale si usa nella forma base (senza -s).
    Does she work on Sundays?
    Does he play tennis?
  • Risposte brevi:
    Do you like coffee?
    — Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
    Does he study English?
    — Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.
  • Le domande con parola interrogativa si formano con parola interrogativa + do/does.

    Wh-word + do + I / you / we / they + V1?
    Wh-word + does + he / she / it + V1?

    Where do you work?
    Why does she get up early?
    When does the train leave?
  • Quando la domanda riguarda il soggetto, non si usa do/does.
    Who works in this office?
    Who lives here?
