Present Simple används för vanor, allmänna sanningar, tidtabeller och permanenta situationer.


  • Vanor och dagliga rutiner
    I usually drink coffee in the morning.
    Jag brukar dricka kaffe på morgonen.
  • Fakta och allmänna sanningar
    Water boils at 100°C.
    Vatten kokar vid 100 °C.
  • Scheman och tidtabeller
    The train leaves at 8:30.
    Tåget går klockan 8.30.
  • Permanenta eller långsiktiga situationer
    She works in a software company.
    Hon arbetar på ett mjukvaruföretag.

Present Simple Form

Subject + V1
He / She / It + V1(+s)

I work from home three days a week. She works from home three days a week.

Present Simple Regel

  • I tredje person singular (he/she/it) lägger vi till -s eller -es.
    He works in an office.
    She watches online courses.
  • Stavningsregler för tredje person singular:
    • verb som slutar på -o, -sh, -ch, -ss, -x → lägg till -es
      He goes to the gym.
      She washes the dishes.
    • verb som slutar på konsonant + y → y ändras till ies
      He studies English every day.
    • verb som slutar på vokal + y → lägg bara till -s
      She plays tennis on Sundays.
  • Frekvensadverb placeras vanligtvis före huvudverbet och efter verbet to be.
    I always check my email in the morning.
    She is often late for meetings.
  • Present Simple används ofta för tidtabeller och regelbundna händelser.
    The meeting starts at 10.
    Our team call takes place every Monday.
  • Vissa verb (som know, like, love, hate, understand, believe) används vanligtvis inte i kontinuerlig form.
    I know the answer.
    She likes this app.

Present Simple Negation

I / you / we / they do not (don’t) + V1
he / she / it does not (doesn’t) + V1

I don’t drink coffee in the evening.
He doesn’t check messages at night.

Present Simple Frågor

  • Ja/nej-frågor bildas med hjälpverben do och does.

    Do + I / you / we / they + V1?
    Does + he / she / it + V1?

    Do you work from home?
    Does she work on Sundays?
  • Efter does används huvudverbet i grundform (utan -s).
    Does she work on Sundays?
    Does he play tennis?
  • Korta svar:
    Do you like coffee?
    — Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
    Does he study English?
    — Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.
  • Wh-frågor bildas med ett frågeord + do/does.

    Wh-word + do + I / you / we / they + V1?
    Wh-word + does + he / she / it + V1?

    Where do you work?
    Why does she get up early?
    When does the train leave?
  • När frågan gäller subjektet används inte do/does.
    Who works in this office?
    Who lives here?
