Det finns används för att säga att något existerar, är närvarande eller är beläget någonstans. Den här strukturen hjälper till att introducera en person, sak eller ett föremål i samtalet.

There is / There are Form

Formen beror på om vi talar om en sak / ett oräkneligt substantiv eller fler än en sak.

There is + singular noun / uncountable noun
There are + plural noun

There is a problem with the printer.
Det är problem med skrivaren.
There is some milk in the fridge.
Det finns lite mjölk i kylskåpet.
There are three chairs in the room.
Det finns tre stolar i rummet.

There is / There are Regel

  • There is används med ett substantiv i singular, och there are används med ett substantiv i plural.
    ✅ There is a lamp near the bed.
    ✅ There are two lamps near the bed.
  • Med oräknebara substantiv använder vi vanligtvis det finns.
    There is enough time.
    Det finns tillräckligt med tid.
    There is some information in the email.
    Det finns viss information i mejlet.
  • Efter strukturen lägger vi ofta till en plats eller någon annan detalj: på bordet, i rummet, i skolan.
    There is a cat under the chair.
    Det finns en katt under stolen.
    There are many people at the bus stop.
    Det är många människor vid busshållplatsen.
  • I bekräftande meningar använder vi ofta some, och i frågor och nekande meningar använder vi ofta any.

    ✅ There aren’t any cookies in the box.
  • I talad engelska förkortas there is ofta till there’s. För there are föredras vanligtvis den fullständiga formen.
    ✅ There’s a message for you.

  • Om en uppräkning kommer efter strukturen, överensstämmer verbet ofta med det första substantivet i uppräkningen.
    ✅ There is a sofa and two chairs in the living room.
    ✅ There are two chairs and a sofa in the living room.

There is / There are Negation

Negation bildas med not: there is not / there isn’t och there are not / there aren’t.

There are not + plural noun
