A There is / There are szerkezetet arra használjuk, hogy kifejezzük: valami létezik, jelen van vagy valahol található. Ez a szerkezet segít bevezetni egy személyt, dolgot vagy tárgyat a beszélgetésbe.

There is a book on the table.
Van egy könyv az asztalon.

There are two students in the classroom.
Két diák van az osztályteremben.

There is / There are Forma

A forma attól függ, hogy egy dologról / egy megszámlálhatatlan főnévről vagy egynél több dologról beszélünk.

There is + singular noun / uncountable noun
There are + plural noun

There is a problem with the printer.
Probléma van a nyomtatóval.

There is some milk in the fridge.
Van egy kis tej a hűtőben.

There are three chairs in the room.
Három szék van a szobában.

There is / There are Szabály

A there is egy egyes számú főnévvel használatos, a there are pedig többes számú főnévvel.

✅ There are two lamps near the bed.
A megszámlálhatatlan főnevekkel általában a there is szerkezetet használjuk.

Van elég idő.

A szerkezet után gyakran hozzáadunk egy helyet vagy más részletet: az asztalon, a szobában, az iskolában.

Kijelentő mondatokban gyakran a some-ot használjuk, kérdésekben és tagadó mondatokban pedig gyakran az any-t.

A beszélt angolban a there is gyakran rövidül there’s alakra. A there are esetében általában a teljes alakot részesítik előnyben.

Ha egy felsorolás a szerkezet után következik, az ige gyakran a lista első főnevével egyezik meg.

A tagadást a not szóval képezzük: there is not / there isn’t és there are not / there aren’t.
