There is / There are は、何かが存在する、ある場所にある、または位置していることを表すために使われます。この構文は、人、物、または物体を会話に導入するのに役立ちます。

その形は、1つのもの／不可算名詞について話しているのか、それとも複数のものについて話しているのかによって決まります。

There is は単数名詞と一緒に使い、there are は複数名詞と一緒に使います。

不可算名詞には、通常there isを使います。
