Countable and Uncountable Nouns koristimo

Brojive imenice su imenice koje možemo brojati jednu po jednu: jedna jabuka, dvije knjige. Nebrojive imenice su imenice koje se obično promatraju kao masa, tvar, materijal, apstraktna ideja ili cjelina: voda, riža, namještaj, informacije, savjeti. Ova vam tema pomaže odabrati ispravno a/an, the, some, any, many, much, a few, a little i ispravan glagolski oblik.

I have an apple and some cheese.

Countable and Uncountable Nouns Oblik

Brojive imenice imaju jedninu i množinu. Nebrojive imenice obično nemaju oblik množine, ne upotrebljavaju se s a/an i obično se slažu s glagolom u jednini.

Countable: a book → books / an apple → apples
Uncountable: milk, rice, money, information, furniture, advice

Countable and Uncountable Nouns Pravilo

  • Ispred jednine brojive imenice obično trebamo odrednicu: na primjer, član (a/an/the), posvojnu zamjenicu (my, your, his, her, our, their), pokaznu zamjenicu (this, that) ili neku drugu odrednicu.
    ✅ I need a chair.
    The chair by the window is broken.
    My phone is in the bag.
    ❌ I need chair.
  • S množinskim imenicama i nebrojivim imenicama ne koristimo a/an. Kad govorimo općenito, imenica se često koristi bez člana. Kad mislimo na nešto određeno, često koristimo the.
    Cars are expensive. (= cars in general)
    The cars outside are ours. (= specific cars)
    ✅ I drink coffee. (= coffee in general)
    The coffee on the table is cold. (= specific coffee)
  • Obično ne upotrebljavamo a/an s nebrojivim imenicama. One obično imaju glagol u jednini.
    Money is important.
    Research takes time.
    ✅ The news is good.
  • Some se obično koristi u potvrdnim rečenicama, a any je češći u pitanjima i niječnim rečenicama. Ali some možemo koristiti i u pitanjima kada nešto nudimo, tražimo ili očekujemo odgovor „da”.
    ✅ I bought some apples.
    ✅ We need some sugar.
    ✅ Do you have any apples?
    ✅ Is there any sugar?
    ✅ Would you like some tea?
    ✅ Can I have some water?
  • Koristite many / a few / few s brojivim imenicama, a much / a little / little s nebrojivim imenicama. U običnim potvrdnim rečenicama a lot of / lots of često zvuči prirodnije od many / much.
    ✅ There are many people here.
    ✅ I have a few ideas. (= some, enough)
    ✅ I have few ideas. (= not many, not enough)
    ✅ There isn’t much time.
    ✅ Add a little salt. (= some, enough)
    ✅ We have little money left. (= not enough)
    ✅ She has a lot of friends.
    ✅ We did a lot of work.
  • Za pitanje o količini, upotrijebite How many...? s brojivim imenicama, a How much...? s nebrojivim imenicama.
    How many books do you have?

  • Da biste “brojali” nebrojivu imenicu, upotrijebite jedinicu, spremnik ili ustaljeni izraz: komad, malo, boca, šalica, štruca, kriška.

  • Neke imenice mogu biti i brojive i nebrojive. Značenje se mijenja ovisno o kontekstu.
    ✅ I don’t drink much coffee. (= the drink in general)

    ✅ I’d like some cake. (= cake as food)
    ✅ She baked two cakes. (= two whole cakes)
    ✅ She has long hair. (= hair in general)
    ✅ There is a hair in my soup. (= one strand)

    ✅ I go to the gym three times a week. (= number of times)
    ✅ I need some paper. (= material to write on)

  • Neke imenice izgledaju kao imenice u množini i obično se upotrebljavaju samo u tom obliku: hlače, škare, naočale, dalekozor. Da bismo ih prebrojili, često koristimo izraz par.
