Countable and Uncountable Nouns folosim

Substantivele numărabile sunt substantive pe care le putem număra unul câte unul: un măr, două cărți. Substantivele nenumărabile sunt substantive văzute de obicei ca o masă, o substanță, un material, o idee abstractă sau un întreg colectiv: apă, orez, mobilă, informație, sfat. Acest subiect te ajută să alegi corect a/an, the, some, any, many, much, a few, a little și forma corectă a verbului.

Substantivele numărabile au forme de singular și plural. Substantivele nenumărabile nu au de obicei formă de plural, nu sunt folosite cu un/o și de obicei cer un verb la singular.

Countable: a book → books / an apple → apples
Uncountable: milk, rice, money, information, furniture, advice

Countable and Uncountable Nouns Regulă

• Înaintea unui substantiv numărabil la singular, de obicei avem nevoie de un determinant: de exemplu, un articol (un/o, -ul/-a), un posesiv (meu, tău, al lui, al ei, nostru, lor), un demonstrativ (acest, acel) sau un alt determinant.

  ✅ My phone is in the bag.

  ❌ I need chair.
• Cu substantivele la plural și substantivele nenumărabile, nu folosim a/an. Când vorbim în general, substantivul este adesea folosit fără articol. Când ne referim la ceva anume, folosim adesea the.
  ✅ Cars are expensive. (= cars in general)

  ✅ The cars outside are ours. (= specific cars)

  ✅ I drink coffee. (= coffee in general)

  ✅ The coffee on the table is cold. (= specific coffee)
• De obicei, nu folosim a/an cu substantivele nenumărabile. Acestea au de obicei un verb la singular.
  ✅ Money is important.

  ✅ Research takes time.

  ✅ The news is good.
• Some este folosit de obicei în propoziții afirmative, iar any este mai frecvent în întrebări și negații. Dar putem folosi some și în întrebări când oferim, cerem sau ne așteptăm la răspunsul „da”.

  ✅ We need some sugar.

  ✅ Do you have any apples?

  ✅ Is there any sugar?

• Folosește many / a few / few cu substantive numărabile și much / a little / little cu substantive nenumărabile. În propozițiile afirmative obișnuite, a lot of / lots of este adesea mai natural decât many / much.
  ✅ There are many people here.

  ✅ I have a few ideas. (= some, enough)

  ✅ I have few ideas. (= not many, not enough)

  ✅ There isn’t much time.

  ✅ Add a little salt. (= some, enough)

  ✅ We have little money left. (= not enough)

  ✅ She has a lot of friends.

  ✅ We did a lot of work.
• Pentru a întreba despre cantitate, folosește How many...? cu substantive numărabile și How much...? cu substantive nenumărabile.
  ✅ How many books do you have?

  ✅ How much water do we need?
• Pentru a „număra” un substantiv nenumărabil, folosiți o unitate, un recipient sau o expresie consacrată: o bucată de, puțin, o sticlă de, o ceașcă de, o pâine de, o felie de.

• Unele cuvinte care pot fi numărabile în alte limbi sunt de obicei nenumărabile în engleză: sfat, informație, mobilier, bagaj, știri, cercetare, teme pentru acasă, echipament, trafic, progres, cunoștințe.

• Unele substantive pot fi atât numărabile, cât și nenumărabile. Sensul se schimbă în funcție de context.
  ✅ I don’t drink much coffee. (= the drink in general)

  ✅ We’d like two coffees. (= two cups)
  ✅ I’d like some cake. (= cake as food)

  ✅ She baked two cakes. (= two whole cakes)
  ✅ She has long hair. (= hair in general)

  ✅ There is a hair in my soup. (= one strand)
  ✅ I don’t have much free time this week. (= time in general)

  ✅ I go to the gym three times a week. (= number of times)
  ✅ I need some paper. (= material to write on)

  ✅ I bought a paper. (= a newspaper/document)
  ✅ I saw some glass near the window. (= material / broken glass)

• Unele substantive par a fi substantive la plural și sunt folosite de obicei doar în această formă: pantaloni, foarfecă, ochelari, binoclu. Pentru a le număra, folosim adesea o pereche de.

Countable and Uncountable Nouns Greșeli tipice

Greșeli frecvente: a lăsa un substantiv numărabil la singular fără un cuvânt înaintea lui, a folosi a/an cu un substantiv nenumărabil, a pune la plural un substantiv nenumărabil, a alege cuvântul de cantitate greșit sau a confunda sensul general cu cel specific.
