Countable and Uncountable Nouns משתמשים

שמות עצם בני־מנייה הם שמות עצם שאפשר לספור אחד אחד: תפוח אחד, שני ספרים. שמות עצם בלתי־ניתנים למנייה הם שמות עצם שבדרך כלל נתפסים כמסה, חומר, חומר גלם, רעיון מופשט או מכלול קיבוצי: מים, אורז, רהיטים, מידע, עצה. נושא זה עוזר לך לבחור את a/an, the, some, any, many, much, a few, a little המתאימים, ואת צורת הפועל הנכונה.

Countable and Uncountable Nouns צורה

שמות עצם ספירים יש להם צורות יחיד ורבים. לשמות עצם בלתי ספירים בדרך כלל אין צורת רבים, הם אינם משמשים עם a/an, ובדרך כלל מקבלים פועל ביחיד.

Countable: a book → books / an apple → apples
Uncountable: milk, rice, money, information, furniture, advice

• לפני שם עצם ניתן לספירה ביחיד, בדרך כלל אנחנו צריכים קובע: למשל, תווית יידוע (a/an/the), כינוי שייכות (my, your, his, her, our, their), כינוי רמז (this, that), או קובע אחר.
  ✅ I need a chair.

  ✅ The chair by the window is broken.

  ✅ My phone is in the bag.

• עם שמות עצם ברבים ועם שמות עצם בלתי ספירים, איננו משתמשים ב־a/an. כשאנחנו מדברים באופן כללי, שם העצם משמש לעיתים קרובות ללא תווית יידוע. כשאנחנו מתכוונים ל־משהו מסוים, אנחנו משתמשים לעיתים קרובות ב־the.
  ✅ Cars are expensive. (= cars in general)

  ✅ The cars outside are ours. (= specific cars)

  ✅ I drink coffee. (= coffee in general)

  ✅ The coffee on the table is cold. (= specific coffee)
• אנחנו בדרך כלל לא משתמשים ב־a/an עם שמות עצם בלתי־ספירים. הם בדרך כלל מקבלים פועל ביחיד.

  ✅ The news is good.
• Some משמש בדרך כלל במשפטים חיוביים, ו-any נפוץ יותר בשאלות ובמשפטי שלילה. אבל אפשר להשתמש גם ב-some בשאלות כשאנחנו מציעים, מבקשים, או מצפים שהתשובה תהיה ״כן״.

• השתמשו ב-many / a few / few עם שמות עצם בני מנייה, וב-much / a little / little עם שמות עצם בלתי בני מנייה. במשפטי חיווי רגילים, a lot of / lots of טבעי לעיתים קרובות יותר מ-many / much.

  ✅ I have a few ideas. (= some, enough)

  ✅ I have few ideas. (= not many, not enough)

  ✅ There isn’t much time.

  ✅ Add a little salt. (= some, enough)

  ✅ We have little money left. (= not enough)

• כדי לשאול על כמות, השתמשו ב־How many...? עם שמות עצם בני מנייה וב־How much...? עם שמות עצם שאינם בני מנייה.

• כדי "לספור" שם עצם בלתי ספיר, השתמשו ביחידת מידה, במכל, או בביטוי מוכן: חתיכה של, קצת, בקבוק של, כוס של, כיכר של, פרוסה של.

• כמה מילים שעשויות להיות בנות־מנייה בשפות אחרות הן בדרך כלל בלתי ניתנות לספירה באנגלית: עצה, מידע, רהיטים, מטען, חדשות, מחקר, שיעורי בית, ציוד, תנועה, התקדמות, ידע.

• ישנם שמות עצם שיכולים להיות גם ספירים וגם בלתי ספירים. המשמעות משתנה בהתאם להקשר.
  ✅ I don’t drink much coffee. (= the drink in general)

  ✅ I’d like some cake. (= cake as food)

  ✅ She baked two cakes. (= two whole cakes)
  ✅ She has long hair. (= hair in general)
